In recent years, the conversation around period dignity has grown considerably, and companies like Citron Hygiene are stepping up to ensure that women and those who menstruate have access to essential hygiene products and services in washrooms across North America and the UK. With an increasing number of establishments recognizing the importance of menstrual health, we’re seeing significant strides toward creating inclusive and supportive environments.
A Commitment to Accessibility
Citron Hygiene is proud to service many customers who want to provide free Aunt Flow period products to their washroom visitors. In the UK, there are now 1,697 Aunt Flow dispensers available for users, showing a 50% increase from 2023! This remarkable achievement indicates a strong commitment to ensuring access to necessary menstrual products and promoting comfort and dignity for everyone.
In North America, 8,023 washrooms now have Aunt Flow services from Citron Hygiene. This is nearly 20% growth from 2023! This extensive network showcases Citron Hygiene customers’ dedication to improving menstrual hygiene access, ultimately allowing individuals to manage their periods with dignity and ease.
Providing Essential Hygiene Solutions
Citron Hygiene prioritizes comprehensive sanitary solutions in washrooms, going beyond just the availability of menstrual products. In North America, the company has installed an impressive 95,800 menstrual waste disposal bins, ensuring facilities are well-equipped to support menstruators.
In contrast, the UK has a long history of providing menstrual waste disposal services, with Citron Hygiene having installed a total of 128,800 bins across the region. This points to a significant difference in how various regions approach waste management. In the UK, the management of bloodborne waste is outsourced to protect staff and custodians from risks associated with viruses, bacteria, and potential needlestick injuries.
Period Dignity Washrooms Serviced Globally
Citron Hygiene recognizes that true period dignity goes beyond just providing products—it’s about creating environments that cater to users’ needs. In the UK, 235 customer sites provide both free vending and menstrual waste disposal services, creating what is known as a ‘Period Dignity Washroom.’ This thoughtful integration allows individuals to utilize washrooms that are not only clean and safe but also equipped to handle their menstrual health requirements effectively.

North America boasts even greater numbers, with 2,048 customer sites offering both free vending and menstrual waste disposal services. These efforts reflect Citron Hygiene’s ongoing mission to foster empowerment and respect for all individuals by addressing the critical needs surrounding menstruation.
Donations
Citron Hygiene was proud to support menstrual health by donating 100,000 Aunt Flow period products to Girls Active programs run by the Youth Sport Trust in schools across the UK. Additionally, we contributed 50,000 period products to Larga Baffin in Ottawa through the Native Women’s Association of Canada. These donations reflected our commitment to advancing period dignity and ensuring access to essential products for those in need, with more support on the way.
Looking Ahead
As Citron Hygiene continues to expand its services across both regions, the commitment to period dignity will undoubtedly play a crucial role in reshaping perceptions and practices around menstrual health. By ensuring that individuals have access to the products and facilities they need, Citron is paving the way for a future where menstruation is treated with the respect and dignity it deserves.
The advancement of period dignity in washrooms is not just a trend—it’s a movement towards inclusivity and well-being. Citron Hygiene is leading the charge, creating a ripple effect that encourages establishments everywhere to prioritize the menstrual health of their patrons. Together, we can work toward a world where period dignity is a standard, and every washroom is a safe space for all.
